Pediatric ECG May Find New Uses Via AI Enhancement

Artificial intelligence tools are helping enhance the diagnostic value of echocardiograms in pediatric care, according to David Leone, MD, MS, a cardiologist at Cincinnati Children’s.

With AI enhancement, ECGs can help doctors to uncover patterns that reflect underlying myocardial function, sometimes even before the traditional symptoms of the disease emerge.

In a presentation at Cardiology 2026, Leone said conditions that appear ripe for AI-enhanced ECG utilization include: congenital heart disease, left and right ventricular dysfunction, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, concealed long QT syndrome, neonatal bradycardia and risk prediction for future cardiovascular events.
