Jain brings deep expertise in infectious disease research, molecular imaging and translational science, and will play a key role in expanding collaborative research initiatives throughout the health system.

Sanjay Jain, MD, has been appointed director of Cincinnati Children’s Division of Infectious Diseases, effective Dec. 1.  Jain joins us from Johns Hopkins University, where he served as professor of Pediatrics, Radiology and Radiological Science, and International Health. He directed the Center for Infection and Inflammation Imaging Research and served as vice chair for Basic & Translational Research in the Department of Pediatrics.

Trained as a physician-scientist, Jain earned his medical degree from the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, followed by pediatric residencies at Penn State Children’s Hospital and Tufts University School of Medicine, and a fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins, where he joined the faculty in 2005.

His research is internationally recognized for developing and applying advanced imaging technologies to study high-containment pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis and SARS-CoV-2. His lab has pioneered novel radiopharmaceutical tracers that are now progressing into early-phase human studies.

Jain’s work has been recognized with awards such as the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award, the NIH Transformative Research Award, and Maryland’s Innovator of the Year.

At Cincinnati Children’s, he will lead the Division of Infectious Diseases with a focus on fostering cross-disciplinary research, enhancing translational opportunities and accelerating discovery.

“I am honored to work with a world-class Infectious Diseases division and to build new clinical, training and research programs,” Jain said. “Cincinnati Children’s is a leader in delivering extraordinary care for children, as well as a powerhouse in research and training.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Jain to Cincinnati Children’s,” said Tina Cheng, MD, MPH, Department of Pediatrics chair, Cincinnati Children’s Research Foundation director, and chief medical officer. “His visionary research, proven leadership, and commitment to advancing innovation in pediatric infectious diseases will strengthen our research enterprise and accelerate discoveries that transform care for children.

“We also want to share our gratitude to Lara Danziger-Isakov [MD, MPH], for her nearly three years of leadership as interim division director.”
