David Schnadower, MD, MPH, has been named Cincinnati Children’s Division Director of Emergency Medicine, beginning in mid-August.

A board-certified physician and professor of Pediatrics, he has served as the interim division director for one year and is also the senior academic director and an attending physician within Emergency Medicine.

Schnadower was selected after a search chaired by Angela Statile, MD, MEd, associate chief of staff, Acute Care, and associate division director for quality, Division of Hospital Medicine, and Samir Shah, MD, MSCE, vice chair, Clinical Affairs and Education and James M. Ewell Endowed Chair.

The Division of Emergency Medicine is internationally recognized for excellence in clinical care, research and education to improve outcomes of children globally.

“We are thrilled that Dr. Schnadower will continue to lead our Emergency Medicine division as director,” Statile said. “With his wealth of clinical care and research experience, Dr. Schnadower brings a spirit of innovation and collaboration to the team. We are confident in his ability to grow our model of exceptional care, both for patients in our local community and children visiting our hospital from across the world.”

Schnadower’s research interests include healthcare disparities, improving the diagnosis and management of young children presenting with infectious diseases to the Emergency Department, and anaphylaxis. With those passions in mind, he launched an Emergency Medicine disparity working group to abate disparities through research, standardization and implementation programs, and recruitment and retention of underrepresented minorities personnel.

“The division consistently produces high quality clinical and translational science research while fostering career development,” said Tina Cheng, MD, MPh, chief medical officer, chair of Pediatrics and director of the Cincinnati Children’s Research Foundation. “Dr. Schnadower is a recognized leader in the field of pediatrics who has mentored and shaped the careers of many physicians.”

His notable achievements include numerous publications, awards and national funding, and serving as the Richard and Barbara Ruddy Endowed Chair in Emergency Medicine Research at Cincinnati Children’s from 2018-2023. He is an elected member of the American Pediatric Society (APS) and the APS Committee on Disparities, Inclusion and Equity, as well as elected chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Emergency Medicine.

Schnadower completed his MD at the National University of Mexico and his MPH at Columbia University, with additional training through a residency in Pediatrics at New York University, where he served as chief resident, and a fellowship in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Columbia University.
