Leaders and employees from Cincinnati Children’s Gamble Vaccine Research Center and Discover Together Biobank recently gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Winslow Research Pavilion, which will serve as the new home of both groups, along with a freezer archive used for long-term cold storage of research samples.

The three-story building, at 2850 Winslow Ave., will encompass nearly 45,000 square feet and house about 70 current employees—including physicians, research investigators, research nurses, coordinators, data managers, laboratory scientists and investigational pharmacists.

Tracy Glauser, MD, associate director of the Cincinnati Children’s Research Foundation, paused to note the significance of the work of these teams.

“Our institution’s Discover Together Biobank is essentially the largest biobank among all children’s hospitals,” he said. “And we’re not a museum of samples; this team is incredibly active, integrated with multiple active research protocols, and facilitating many discoveries. We really appreciate all the studies that our biobank team supports along with the way they’re safeguarding the samples.

“For years, the Gamble Vaccine Research Center has a played a pivotal role in the testing of many effective and safe vaccines for children and adults, especially during the COVID pandemic,” Glauser said. “This new facility will enable them to continue their vital work aimed at improving the health of children and adults in the U.S. and around the world.”

The building is scheduled to be completed by mid- to late 2025.
